Depression
Like anxiety, depression can be something people have been experiencing for years, or can be a reaction to a life/age stage or change or adjustment or loss. Whatever its origin, my approach is typically to start with the ‘hear and now’ and provide psycho-education and evidenced based interventions to support them to feel better. Goals often include improving mood, addressing sleep issues, addressing interpersonal relationship issues that make the problem worse, addressing underlying the underlying maladaptive emotions that impact depression and improving coping skills to increase competence and confidence. Sometimes, people require family doctor or psychiatric involvement to include medicine in their treatment plan. Sometimes people aren’t sure about medication interventions and want to talk about their options and concerns. Sometimes people want to talk about childhood experiences or patterns that they feel are relevant to their current symptoms, and sometimes people just want to improve their present-day functioning. I will work collaboratively with you, your family and your doctor to best support your own identified needs and goals.
